7 Logo Design Mistakes Lebanese Brands Keep Making

From copying competitors to skipping brand guidelines, these are the branding mistakes that cost Lebanese businesses credibility — and clients.

After building brand identities for clients across Lebanon and the GCC, we've seen the same mistakes repeat. These are the seven that cost businesses the most — in credibility, in clients, and in long-term brand equity.

Mistake 1: Buying a Logo Off Fiverr for $15

Yes, you can get a logo for $15. You'll also get a logo that 47 other businesses own (because the designer resells the same templates), that comes with no brand guidelines, and that falls apart when scaled to a billboard or shrunk to a favicon.

A logo is not a decoration. It's a legal and commercial asset. Invest accordingly.

Mistake 2: Designing for Your Own Taste

We've had clients who loved pink and insisted on a pink logo for their male-targeted fitness brand. We've had others who chose fonts because "it looks nice" — not because it communicates the right things.

Your logo is for your customers, not for you. Great logo design starts with audience psychology, not aesthetic preference.

Mistake 3: Too Complex, Too Clever

Lebanese designers (and clients) love complexity. Multi-layer symbols, intricate Arabic calligraphy combined with Latin typography, gradients within gradients. The result? A logo that looks impressive at 500x500 pixels and completely illegible at 50x50 — which is how most people will see it on their phone.

The test: Does your logo work in one color, at the size of a postage stamp?

Mistake 4: Skipping Brand Guidelines

A logo without guidelines is a logo waiting to be misused. Without a brand guide, your team will:

  • Use the wrong color codes (CMYK vs RGB vs HEX)
  • Stretch or distort the logo
  • Place it on backgrounds that make it unreadable
  • Choose wrong fonts for accompanying copy

Every logo we deliver at Social Pulse comes with a brand guidelines document. This is non-negotiable.

Mistake 5: Not Testing Across Applications

How does your logo look on:

  • A white background?
  • A dark background?
  • Your product packaging?
  • An embroidered polo shirt?
  • A phone screen at 2am in night mode?

Test all of these before finalizing.

Minimalist logos were trendy in 2019. Everyone removed the detail from their logos. By 2022, every brand looked identical. Design trends move fast; your logo needs to last 10 years.

Design for timelessness, not trendiness.

Mistake 7: Not Trademarking

This is the most expensive mistake, and it happens after the logo is designed. If your logo is not registered as a trademark, a competitor can legally copy it — or worse, someone else can trademark a similar mark and force you to rebrand.

In Lebanon, trademark registration through the Ministry of Economy costs a few hundred dollars and takes weeks. For a business investing in a brand, this is not optional.

The Right Process

A logo design process that works:

  1. 1Discovery — Brand positioning, audience, competitive landscape
  2. 2Concept development — 3-5 directions exploring different visual territories
  3. 3Refinement — One direction developed in full detail
  4. 4Testing — Real-world application testing
  5. 5Delivery — Full file package + brand guidelines + trademark recommendation
